Job Summary
The Marine Pilot plays a critical role in ensuring the safe navigation of ships and vessels in and out of harbors and other congested waterways. This position is pivotal in the maritime industry, often seen as a bridge between the sea and the port facilities. Marine Pilots are responsible for utilizing their specialized knowledge of local waters, weather, currents, and tides to guide of all sizes through hazardous or congested water safely. Their expertise greatly reduces the risk of collision, grounding, or environmental damage, making them indispensable in the maritime transport sector.
Job Responsibilities
Boarding vessel by pilot boat/boat and effectively communicating with ships captains and crew. | Communicating effectively with port authorities, and national and international shipping personnel |
Conducting pre-operational briefings with ships captains and other navigational crew members. | Directly maneuvering the ship or advising the ship’s captain on maneuvers during docking and undocking operations. |
Assessing vessel conditions and voyage details to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. | Ensure all safety and compliance align with regulations. |
Coordinating with Tugboats and other harbor services as needed. | Coordinate with harbor services and Tugboats |
Documenting all operations and incidents to maintain records as per regulatory requirements. | Documenting all operations and incidents with all regulatory requirements. |
Maintain and actively implement SHE programs and responsibility (involve identify, mitigate and monitor SHE risk), including SHE Management System to ensure the effectiveness of the programs conform to official standard, requirements and procedure applied and to confirm the execution of the SHE Responsibility meet the intended outcome |

Education
A Diploma degree or related field.
Skill, Knowledge, and Experience
- Maximum age of Pilot as required by the regulations.
- Contract agreement of Manpower shall include the above requirements.
- Familiar/experience with safety industrial standards (SIMOPS, SV/Oversight, assessment, etc).
- Obtain Final assessment “Meel-open” by one of GOO Pilots and acknowledged by Tangguh SMTL / Site Manager prior submission for SKP3.
Certification
- Garuda MCU, and other required Seafarer Cert’ of Proficiency
- Minimum Valid Class-II Pilot License & endorsement
